HOLMDEL, NJ - After a staggering amount of interest for My Brother’s Girlfriend, ticket pre-sales for January 9 and 10 have sold out. Sunday, January 11, 2015 at 3PM is the remaining screening of the film from director Nicholas Marchese. Don’t miss your chance to see the film!
My Brother’s Girlfriend is a dramatic comedy which features amauture and semi-professional talent from across the state of New Jersey. The lead character of Shelby, portrayed by actress Kelsey Potkay, has been acting since grade school. Along with her love for acting, she is an avid field hockey player at Rutgers while also finding the time attempt to sing in the shower.
After finding out about the auditions, she was instantly drawn to the character of Shelby. “I've never played the so called ‘bad girl’ before and I really wanted to explore that character. It was an awesome experience”. The film features many scenes in which Shelby and Chadwick Hensen (Joseph Scarpino), share each others company while exploring their impulses and emotions. “My favorite scene to shoot was when Chad and Shelby walk down the street when he's delivering newspapers. It was our first day on set so it was pretty scary and exciting at the same time. I also love the tension between Chad and Shelby in this scene and hopefully others will too”!
The film and its screenplay challenged many of the actors in moments of true, realistic, tensions, verbal and or physical, among people and families. “The most difficult scene to shoot was when I was meeting the family. I had to be a tough girl who was still trying to make an impression, but also be a little nervous”.
She credits the cast and crew for being “very professional,” and explains that her favorite location in the film was at the Red Bank waterfront because it was the perfect place for Chad to open up.
In closing Kelsey said, “Working on this film as my first feature film was one of the best experiences I could have asked for. From the cast to the crew everyone was having a good time and that’s a feeling I want all the time. I couldn't have asked for better people to share this experience with”.
